Report for 2Q2015

Our 2nd quarter has been fruitful.   We have given out two $2000.00 scholarships.

As you know we are getting ready for our Ball and we are selling raffle tickets for a model 1911.  There are two other itmes you would win.  With that we have had a booth at both the York Summerfest and Clover Car Show & Summefest and have done quite well.

Our Toys for Tots program is kicking off this month and we are going to work with the American Legion, VFW and the county VSO to ensure that the veterans in our county are taken care of.

We have had one of our Associates named by the Commandant of the Marine Corps an Honorary Marine for his  work done for Marines.  John Wentling is the 95th person to receive this honor.

During this time period we have added members and have several that may come into our detachment.

On August 8, 2015 our detachment welcomed our newest Marine Corps League member with an especially touching ceremony for one of our own:  Chapain, John Wentling.  The ceremony was a surprise to John, where he learned that he has been awarded Honorary Marine status, and was surprised by his entire family entering the room.  The event was recorded by WCCB, and representatives from The Herald were present for interviews, photos, and video.

Please be sure to see the newly created page dedicated to John and this event, entitled Honorary Marine John Wentling.  Click on the Honorary Marine John Wentling, in the left navigation panel, to see the whole story and photos.

Congratulations, John!

The Yard Sale held on July 11th at the old American Legion was a success!!  We kicked off the raffle of the 1911 Colt .45 and also received donations, in addition to the Yard Sale items.  The yard Sale raised over $1400, and with the donations and the raffle sales we topped over $1600 for the day!   Well done Marines!!  Many thanks go out to all who donated, showed up to help recieving items, moved item sfrom one location to another, sorted out thousands of household goods and clothing, manned the tables, led negotiations when necessary, and cleaned up afterwards!  OoohRah!!

We've also had the distinct honor to have new members be sworn into our detachment recently.  Please be sure to welcome our latest members.
